What to Expect from Therapy The
first time I meet with people, we need to create a safe place for you
to explore what’s bothering you. It’s an opportunity for me
to get to know you better, and the more I know, the more I can help you.
Therefore, in the first session I obtain a history of the client, problems,
and mental health treatment, if any. Therapy progresses at different paces
with different people. Some people are ready to face their issues and
overcome them. Others have had their trust violated a number of times
and want to take the time to build a trusting relationship first. I work
with each client’s individuality; with this in mind, I develop unique
treatment plans for each person or family. The clients’ job is to
express how they feel. My job is to listen nonjudgmentally, offer helpful
feedback, and assist the person to move forward with their plans and goals.
Like any good relationship, regular visits encourage the communication
and trust. |
