Ericksonian Hypnosis for Grief, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Weight loss, Smoking and Sleep Problems

Does this sound familiar to you?

You eat to soothe your negative emotions, especially at night. It's hard to control your weight because even though you know you need to change your habit, you're stuck in the same pattern.

You can't sleep because you're ruminating about losing something important to you, or you're afraid to sleep because of nightmares or night terrors. It makes you groggy and irritable during the day.

You started smoking cigarettes again because you're stressed and upset about things that happened to you in the past... things that won't leave you alone. You know it's bad for your health and other people want you to stop, but you can't seem to stop...

What if I told you there was a different way to manage your stress, one that was easy, natural, and more rewarding than escaping through food or cigarettes? Wouldn't you like to be feel calm and peaceful more the time, and use your natural resources to cope with life's challenges?

With Ericksonian hypnosis, I don't tell you what to do while you're in a hypnotic state or implant things into your head to make you more in control. I help you get into a creative, open state of focused attention so you can access your inner strength. When you have healthier ways to cope with stress from the past or present, you naturally have more control over your choices and you want to take better care of yourself.

Clinical hypnosis can help you find better ways to handle whatever is making you overeat, smoke, or sleep strange hours. You can think of it as a conversation that I have with your unconscious mind, so that you succeed with your health goals. Whether you want to stop being tormented by negative feelings, sleep better at night, succeed in weight loss or stop smoking, I think you'll really enjoy it. It's a natural, healthy way to retrain your mind to be healthier and feel better.

Hypnotherapy for smoking cessation and other self-destructive habits.

Giving up cigarettes is probably one of the hardest things to do. You might be physically dependent on nicotine as well as psychologically dependent on having an escape from uncomfortable feelings, or needing something to do with your hands or mouth. It’s not uncommon that smokers also often struggle with overeating. However, if you depend on cigarettes to relax you or to get to a day, you do not have to be chained to this addiction any longer. If you have a sincere desire to quit and are ready to take steps to eliminate cigarettes from your life, you can overcome this destructive, life-threatening habit.

Emphysema, COPD, lung cancer, mouth cancer, nicotine stains on their teeth, and reduce stamina are just some of the many problems that arise from smoking and chewing tobacco. And yet, you might have tried many times and relapsed despite knowing how harmful smoking is.

Hypnosis does not in itself rid you of the desire to quit. It is a cooperative endeavor, as with all hypnosis, that we undertake together. You get out of it what you put into it. What hypnotherapy can do is bypass your objections, judgments, shame, and the attachments that you have to smoking. When you learn to take care of your body with love and self-compassion, the desire to smoke decreases dramatically. You might find that the idea becomes repulsive after you overcome that obstacle to self-care.

Ericksonian sleep hypnosis

You might struggle with sleeping because of PTSD or complicated grief. Maybe you sleep too little, because your sleep is punctuated by disturbing nightmares or night terrors. Your anxiety and hypervigilance can also interfere with sleep.

Alternatively, you might retreat into sleep to escape the depressing reality of loss and trauma. You might spend a lot of time in bed, which makes it harder to sleep at night.

Hypnosis can help you disengage from some of the disturbing memories or reframe it at an unconscious level, so that you can set aside whatever is bothering you consciously. Then you can finally relax and focus their attention on something besides trauma or loss. No doubt, you have seen recordings on YouTube or commercially available that help with sleep. These are fine, and I don’t discourage you from using them. However, they are not specific to what your specific needs and experience.

You can see for yourself how an individualized hypnotherapy session that is tailored to your specific needs and circumstances, would be much more beneficial than a generic recording that is not attuned to you and what you’re going through. Sleep Hypnosis can be a valuable tool for reestablishing the sense of safety that is needed for deep, satisfying sleep.

Hypnotherapy for other conditions

Hypnosis is very versatile, creative and gentle. It can be used effectively for pain control, grief, depression, trauma, anxiety, and to enhance self-esteem. The possibilities are vast and I hope that you consider having it be part of your healing plan.

Hypnotherapy costs

There is a wide range of what people charge for hypnosis sessions. Ironically, some of the people with the least amount of training charge more than people who are licensed psychotherapists.

Why does this matter? I think that sometimes you get what you pay for, but that may not be the case if the hypnotherapist only got their certificate from a program that does not prepare them or her for negative emotional responses or does not have a full understanding of how the brain works. It’s much more reassuring to know that your hypnotherapist is adequately prepared for whatever emerges in hypnosis, isn’t it?

As a licensed psychologist, I can respond to many of the experiences you are likely to have in psychotherapy. Hypnosis is just one tool that I use in the treatment of mental health and substance abuse disorders. I do not charge more for hypnosis than I do for any other service. It is not the only thing I do, although I do love doing Ericksonian hypnotherapy and I often see wonderful results.

Unlike some other people who call themselves hypnotherapists (but don't have advanced degrees or licenses), I don’t charge $300 an hour and make you pay for a "package" of sessions ahead of time. I charge the same for hypnosis as any other service I offer.

Additionally, at the end of the session, you have recording of the session sent to you to you to listen to afterwards. I strongly suggest that you listen to the recordings at least once or twice between visits so you can deepen your experience and learn to apply what you learned to everyday life. As Hebb said, neurons that fire together wire together. So, if you practice experiencing the hypnosis repeatedly, you have a better chance of reinforcing that learning.

When you compare what I do to people who only have a certificate in hypnosis and have not become a licensed mental health clinician, the value is outstanding.
